Miranda Lambert brings young country to the Blue Note

Well-known country singer, Miranda Lambert appeared at The Blue Note on Friday, March 14. Whether fans heard about her through the radio or through friends, the concert was a country music fan’s dream. Miranda, singing to a sold-out crowd for her second appearance in Columbia, was an immediate hit.

With the line wrapping behind The Blue Note and around the next corner, fans were getting restless by the time the doors opened at 7 p.m.

Lyndsey Hees and Regan Muri, both juniors in high school drove from Jamestown, Mo., to see the concert.

“I heard about the concert through a friend,” Muri said. “I have never been so close to a famous singer before, so that was really cool.”

For Hees, who was wearing a pink Miranda Lambert tee, it would be her fourth Miranda concert.

“In one word, I would describe the concert as amazing,” Hees said. “She is an awesome singer and entertainer.”

Hits such as "Me and Charlie Talkin’," "Kerosene," and "Famous in a Small Town" were sung as fans screamed in unison.

Not only were fans there to hear her sing, they were there to hear her speak.

Lambert is known for being open and speaking out about not being a “size 2” in a society that idealizes thinness, creating unhealthy body images for young women. She really got through to some of her fans.

“I like that Miranda doesn't change for society,” said Muri. “She acts exactly the way she is.”

Sophomore Katy Nivens was surprised to see such a large crowd so early in the night. Nivens came with her friend Kara Ford later than they had hoped but managed to slip their way to the front to stand by their other friends.

“I just absolutely love her music,” Nivens said. “The mood at the concert was great — it was sold out and just packed full of Miranda Lambert fans!”

Lambert has been nominated for nine awards, the most recent being the top female vocalist at the Academy of Country Music Awards, which she lost to Carrie Underwood.

Losing to Underwood hasn’t set Lambert back, she admires her fans and closed the concert by screaming, “I have the best fans in the world! Thanks y’all!”
