Tiger Treasures to save our most prized resource
Mariah Yates, posted April 18, 2007
Tiger Treasures is a new event at the University of Missouri. In honor of Earth Day, make plans to get involved. The Tiger Treasures rummage sale allows you to get rid of items that are no longer of use to you. Items such as furniture, electronics and kitchen accessories can be kept out of landfills and benefit a second owner.
Students and faculty can drop off rummage sale items at residence hall donation stations from May 1 to 12. Steve Burdic, MU recycling coordinator, said that all items should be cleaned and in good, working condition.
Early shoppers can get the best deals for a $5 fee at Memorial Stadium on June 2 from 6 to 7 a.m. The sale will then be free to the public from 7 a.m. to noon. All proceeds of the event will benefit the Salvation Army.
Make plans to attend the rummage sale after the semester has ended, especially if you need to furnish your new apartment on a budget. Salvation Army volunteers will sort, price and sell donated items at the rummage sale. Volunteers are needed to collect items and work at the sale.
MU’s Campus Facilities, Intercollegiate Athletics and Residential Life are partnering with sponsors to make the event a success. Sponsors include: City of Columbia, Salvation Army, United Way, Zimmer Radio Group, KCMQ, KCLR, KTXY, Columbia Daily Tribune, KOMU TV8 and Mid-Missouri's CW.
