Super Farmer is Super Fun Time

Sigma Alpha held their second annual Super Farmer March 13 at Trowbridge Livestock Pavilion. Super Farmer is a take-off of a similar event held at the Missouri State Fair. Sigma Alpha’s version has five-person teams competing in five events. A hog scramble, hay bale toss, hog judging, a written test over general agriculture and an obstacle course.
In the hog scramble, two team members had to catch two pigs in a race against the clock. Eric Hoffman, a senior in general agriculture, captures one of his team's two pigs.

Christopher Perry, a freshman in animal science, and Jena Thompson, a freshman in agricultural journalism, study a herd of four pigs. Each team had to rank the pigs from 1 to 4 based on traditional livestock judging principals.

Rachel Tiemann, a freshman in Social Work, catches one of her team’s pigs. Both the pigs and competitors were ‘greased up’ with soapy water before the event.
