Meet Sarah Woodhurst
I am Sarah Woodhurst, the 18-year-old daughter of Brian and Delores Woodhurst of Perry, Mo. Perry is a small town of 668 people about an hour and a half from Columbia. I have two younger sisters, Rachel, who is currently a high school junior, and Kaitlyn, who is in elementary school.
In high school, I was very active in many organizations, especially FFA. I gained a lot of experience and knowledge through contest team competitions. My experiences through FFA were what directed me toward the agricultural journalism program, and participation on the Ag Sales Team is what motivated me to focus on the marketing track.
Another reason I am interested in marketing and advertising is my favorite hobby — stock car racing. I began racing at local dirt tracks in 2006. On April 16, 2006, which is also my birthday, I won my first heat and feature events at Quincy Raceways in Quincy, Ill. Thanks to the support of my family, friends, and sponsors, I’ve been fortunate enough to continue racing. I am passionate about racing, and the experiences I have had and people I’ve been able to meet through racing, have all enhanced my communciation skills.
In my spare time, I like to hunt, play piano, ride four-wheelers, and spend time with friends and family. I also stay busy as a member of Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow and CAFNR Corner Post.
My dream job would be to work in communications for a traveling racing series like NASCAR as a writer, reporter, or marketing director. Though this will require a lot of hard work, I believe in what Henry Ford once said, “Whether you think you can, or think you can’t, you’re right!”
