The Friars Chapter of Mortar Board at the MU is hosting its second annual Hunger Dinner from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Friday March 5 in the Mark Twain Ballroom of Memorial Union. The organization is hosting the dinner to increase awareness of world hunger.
“There’s not enough awareness of the hunger issue in Columbia or around the world,” said Weston Merrick, president of Mortar Board. The event aims to show how the world population actually eats.
The dinner benefits the The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri and John Wampler of its development staff will be delivering the keynote address.
The organization suggests a donation of $15 or five cans of food per attendee. Peanut butter is preferred as The Food Bank is currently running a campaign called BuddyPack, which provides elementary school students with the high protein food.
So far, between 125 and 150 people have submitted an RSVP and others have donated as well.
