A woman of integrity, high moral character, enthusiasm, and genuine concern for others are the words that Steven Rogers, state FFA executive secretary, used to describe the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources Outstanding Freshman.
On Thursday, April 15, Meredith Jones was named the CAFNR Outstanding Freshman at the annual Celebration of Excellence Banquet.
“It was a great honor to be selected as CAFNR Outstanding Freshman. I have been told that this is a very esteemed award and I greatly appreciate it,” said Meredith Jones.
Jones grew up in Dawn, Mo., on a family farm with her parents and brother, Tyler. She graduated in 2009 from Southwest High School. While in high school, Jones was involved in softball, basketball, track, cheerleading, FFA, Future Business Leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Family Career and Community Leaders of America, National Honor Society and Student Council. Her FFA career expanded into her college years where she served as Area II State FFA Vice President.
While in college, Jones has gotten involved in Sigma Alpha Professional Agricultural Sorority, Collegiate Farm Bureau, CAFNR Week Steering Committee and Agricultural Education Society.
Other than her college activities, Jones enjoys being outside at home helping her dad and brother on the farm. Her favorite activity at home is checking and working cattle. She also likes playing intramural basketball at the rec center with friends at MU.
“While an 'outstanding freshman' should possess several qualities, one quality that Meredith possesses in abundance is that of commitment,” said Rogers. “Meredith is extremely committed to the industry and people of agriculture. Her involvement in numerous agriculture organizations on and off campus stems from her belief in the agriculture industry and her desire to lead in this industry.”
