by Brooklyn Shearer, posted April 1, 2009

CAFNR Student Council will be hosting the Spring Swing slow-pitch softball tournament event from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 4, at Hinkson Field complex, located southwest of the Mizzou Arena.

“This is the third annual Spring Swing,” said Whitney Middleton, CAFNR Student Council junior class representative. “The winning team last year was a plant science major team.”

Students are encouraged to come out to the field and watch their friends and classmates play softball. The softball tournament proceeds benefit Heifer International.

“HI is a program that allows groups and communities to help people in third world countries who are suffering from hunger or poverty. This program sends animals (heifers, chickens, etc.) to the suffering country and allows the gift to keep on giving because the family passes on the offspring animal,” said Middleton.

Last year approximately 15 teams participated in the tournament, up from 12 the first year. Middleton said Student Council is expecting more teams to register this year, with the same success and excitement as the past two years.

Since the tournament is going on all day anytime is a great time for spectators!
