Meet Kerry O'Connor
by Hilary Vanater, posted Sept. 19, 2011 |
Kerry O’Connor is a freshman in the science and agricultural journalism program at the University of Missouri, where she is interested in public speaking and broadcast journalism. In high school, O’Connor was involved in many extra-curricular activities such as captain of the volleyball team, cheerleading and president of Student Council.
“I have wanted to go to Mizzou ever since I went to my first Mizzou football game, and that was when my brother started going to college here,” O’Connor said. “I have basically loved it my whole life ... in fact I didn't even apply to any other schools!”
O’Connor isn’t the first in her family to attend MU, her father, older sister, and older brother all attended Mizzou.
“I would best describe myself as fun, outgoing, friendly, and courteous to others,” she said.
O’Connor is the youngest of three children to parents John and Janice O’Connor and grew up in what she called the “Crossroads of the Nation,” where U.S. Highways 35 and 36 meet — also known as Cameron, Mo. Cameron is a small farm town north of Kansas City.
Being the youngest child, O’Connor doesn’t consider herself spoiled, just fortunate, she said with a smile.
O’Connor is still not sure what she wants to do yet with her degree in science and agricultural journalism, but with so many opportunities available she is confident she will find a perfect career.
