Does Thanksgiving Break come too late for students' sanity?

Thanksgiving break is the first time some students are able to go home and see their family and friends.
“I haven’t been home yet this semester and I am so happy Thanksgiving break is almost here,” said Alex Bishop, a freshman at the University of Missouri.
At MU Thanksgiving break was a weeklong hiatus that started Nov. 19. Some colleges in Missouri have a fall break earlier in the semester and only get a couple days off the week of Thanksgiving. For example, Missouri State University gets a shorter break with the day before and the day after Thanksgiving off.
“MSU’s fall break was Oct 13-16,” said Nichole Norgard, a freshman at Missouri State University. “I wish our break was a little later in the semester it feels like after our fall break we have a long time till the end of the semester.”
Marisa Bryan, a freshman at MU, argues that fall break is late in the semester and too close to the end of semester.
“I live in Florida, so when I fly home for Thanksgiving only two and a half weeks later, I will be catching another flight home,” Bryan said.
Avery Bounous views Thanksgiving break differently. With so many students traveling long distances home, having a week off for Thanksgiving allows students to travel home and visit their family during the holiday.
“I only live three hours away, but I am going to use Thanksgiving break as an opportunity to take some of my stuff home so that I don’t have to take all my things home all at once for winter break,” Bounous said.
Even though it seems like MU’s fall break is late in the semester, I would rather have the full week off during Thanksgiving than earlier in the semester.
My family travels during Thanksgiving break and having the week off prevents me from missing classes while visiting my family. My opinion is that MU understands many students’ live further away from campus and need the week off for traveling and spending time with family.
