Meet Aubrey Ellison

"I've lived on a dairy farm my whole life," said freshman Aubrey Ellison. "My community is very agriculturally related. Generations of my family have been farmers."

Ellison chose the science and agricultural journalism program at the University of Missouri because of both her dedication to the agricultural field and her love of communications. She developed a passion for journalism in high school, where she was an active yearbook staff member.

Her hometown of Miller, Mo., has a population of about 700 people. In high school, she was on the volleyball team and a member of FFA, an agricultural club.

"I enjoyed growing up there,” Ellison said,  “You know everyone and they are always willing to help with anything."

Leaving her close-knit community and family was the hardest part of her college transition.

"I have a daughter, Marley Kay, and it's very hard to leave her, even though I know she is being well taken care of by my parents."

Now at Mizzou, she hopes to become involved on campus. She is a member of the dairy club and will join Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow. She is also rushing Sigma Alpha, an agricultural sorority.

Her goal for her freshman year is to end with a great GPA. By the end of her time at Mizzou, she plans to have a Bachelor of Science in science and agricultural journalism with an emphasis in agricultural marketing.
