Meet Cathy Crowley
by Courtney Leeper, posted Sept. 19, 2011

Cathy Crowley is a freshman science and agricultural journalism major who is excited about her future in the program at the University of Missouri.

Agriculture is important to Crowley, an Odessa, Mo. native. She grew up on the family farm with her parents and two sisters. They raise sheep, and have horses, pigs, goats and chickens. She has also served in leadership positions such as president and vice-president of her 4-H club. In high school, Crowley was involved in organizations such as Spanish Club, Art Club and National Honor Society. Throughout all of these experiences she realized that most of all she loved to write and decided to pursue that as her career path.

“I always wanted to write. I knew through high school I wanted to go into journalism, and living on the farm influenced me to go into agricultural journalism,” Crowley said.

Crowley enjoys being outdoors and interacting with animals, especially her cat, Shadow. She also has a passion for traveling and experiencing new things and different foods. These interests have led her to where she wants her focus to be journalistically.

“My dream job would be to write about international food,” Crowley said. “I would love to travel places and write about what I eat and encounter.”

Her love of traveling and experiencing the world, along with her interest and background in agriculture, have led her to the food and wine track in the science and agricultural journalism program.

While she says her upcoming experiences with CAFNR Corner Post will be completely new and different to her, she is excited about the challenge it will present and looks forward to seeing what the future will bring.
