Open mic night another success

MU students responded with applause after each performance at the monthly open mic night at the MU Memorial Union.
The most recent open mic night was held on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. The night began with the emcee welcoming students to the event.
Altogether there were 12 acts. The acts ranged from individuals and group bands playing acoustic guitars and singing, to poetry and spoken words, to stand-up comedy. There was even an act that consisted of two men playing an acoustic guitar and a ukulele.
Musical acts were the most popular acts of the evening, with seven of the twelve acts involving guitars.
Jacelyn Miller, a senior in psychology, took charge of open mic night at the beginning of this semester. She thinks this duty is a great opportunity for her to get to meet nice people. Miller said that being the overseer of the event builds good leadership skills.
“It’s a good way for other people to express themselves in ways they might not otherwise,” Miller said.
Taylor Tuepker, a freshman undecided in health professions, enjoys attending the open mic night because she thinks it is very entertaining.
“Comedy acts are my favorite kind of acts because they are hilarious to watch,” Tuepker said.
Miller said that if any students have a special talent in music, poetry, or anything else they should feel free to come and sign up.
Open mic night is held the first Wednesday of every month in the Bengal Lair at the Memorial Student Union. Sign-ups begin at 7:45 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m.
