Meet Courtney Leeper
by Cathy Crowley, posted Sept. 19, 2011 |
Courtney Leeper is on a mission, a mission to communicate about agriculture.
Leeper comes to Mizzou from Trenton, Mo. She grew up on a farm where she and her family raised cattle and chickens.
Throughout high school, Leeper was active in her local FFA chapter. Her projects included food science and agriculture communications. She was also her chapter’s president and area’s secretary. Besides FFA, she also participated in Key Club, a service organization, and was a member of her school’s National Honor Society.
She came to Mizzou to study agricultural journalism. Her love of media first started back home, where she was a reporter for The Republican, the local newspaper, and a contributor on KTTN radio. She recently has taken up blogging, specifically about her journey through college.
Besides working in media, Leeper likes to play the piano and cook. She is also interested in historical agriculture. Even though most of her life is spent dealing with writing and food, she never neglects her faith.
“Faith is very important to me,” Leeper said. “I can’t live without my faith and my family.”
Someday, Leeper would like to go into print journalism and write about agriculture.
“My passion is telling the story of agriculture,” she said. “I would love to help consumers understand where their food comes from and help build a strong connection between farmers and consumers.”
