Meet Davis Hamor
by Katlyn Britt-Rankin, posted Sept. 19, 2011

Students come to universities looking for an adventure, Davis Hamor, freshman science and agricultural journalism major is no different.

Hamor came looking to leave his small high school to find something new, something he was hoping to find on the Columbia campus.

“I wanted to leave the place I had lived for most of my life,” Hamor said. “I was ready for an adventure, a new experience.”

Hamor came to the university this fall not knowing what to expect, but knew he was not going to come onto the campus without a purpose. Science and agricultural journalism may not be his passion, but he refused to be labeled ‘undecided.’

Hamor originates from town quite similar to Columbia because it is home to the large University of Illinois campus. Unlike the schools of Columbia though, he graduated from Judah Christian School with a class of 60.

He chose Mizzou over the University of Illinois because it was the cheaper route to begin the journey he was looking for. Judah Christian School allowed Hamor to participate on the basketball team as a power forward, not surprising given his well over 6-foot tall stature.

Do not let Hamor’s towering build scare you off because he believes himself to be friendly and “chill.” Hamor hasn’t had much time to discover all there is to discover on campus but, thus far, he has made a lot of new friends while hanging out at the Rec Center’s whirlpool.

Hamor may not be the stereotypical, passionate science and agricultural journalism student, but he is the stereotypical college freshman. Hamor sat in class as the lone person with a striped tank top and a relaxed Mohawk listening to what the semester had in store for him. Hamor isn’t sure where his journey is going to take him, but he does know he will make a lasting impression.

“I don’t know what my future plans are, but I do know that I want to be successful at whatever I do,” Hamor said.
