Meet Maggie Hardwick

If you have never heard of Tibby the Tiburon, well then you probably have not had the pleasure of meeting Maggie Hardwick. She is a freshman science and agricultural journalism major who hails from Salisbury. This is where her car, Tibby the Tiburon, traveled from to take her to the University of Missouri.
“I fell in love with the Ag J program after a mentor described it to me,” Hardwick said.
She grew up in a rural town of 1,700 people where her dad, a former agriculture instructor, is now a wholesale labor owner, and her mother is a retired second grade teacher.
She was an active member of her high school in the National FFA Organization, National Honor Society, Science Olympiad, and Girl Scouts. In fact, Hardwick sold more than 300 boxes of cookies one year as a Girl Scout. That ambition has transferred to her career goals; Hardwick’s dream job is to be the head of Monsanto public relations.
This is a far cry from her earlier ambitions as a youngster, when, Hardwick said, “I just wanted to be a Wal-Mart cashier.”
The change in her career aspirations had a lot to do with her family’s influence. She has two older siblings, Anne and Andy, who are 10 and 15 years older than her respectively. They are also both lawyers, and Hardwick admits that she has some big shoes to fill. She is certainly on the right path as a highlight of her high school career was being selected as Missouri’s representative to the Washington Journalism and Media Conference held in Washington, D.C. She was also on the advisory board.
“The conference opened my eyes to a journalism career,” she said.
Hardwick enjoys traveling, and her bucket list includes visiting all seven continents upon graduating from college. In fact, she has already checked three off her list.
If you find Hardwick at home most likely she will be eating Chinese food and getting caught up in an NCIS marathon. She’s a huge fan. Hardwick likes NCIS just about as much as she likes her car. If you have never heard of Tibby the Tiburon, do not worry because if you meet Maggie Hardwick she will be sure to tell you all about her!
She will also talk to you about her future career goals, agriculture, and most likely invite you out to grab some Chinese.
