Hot Box Cookies brings back
memories of home

by Breanne Brammer, posted Oct. 11, 2011

The scent of freshly baked cookies hits me as soon as I walk through the doors. The smells bring back memories of holidays, afternoon snacks and hours spent in grandma’s kitchen. Hot Box Cookies not only smells amazing, but offers college students homemade cookies with unique ingredients, speedy delivery times and a chance to recall the comforts of home.

Hot Box Cookies is a local Columbia sweet store and eatery owned by enterprising Mizzou students. When I look at the menu board, I see I can choose from four types of dough and add whatever ingredient I want, no matter what my taste buds desire: M & M’s, marshmallows, Reese’s Pieces, Oreos or an original blend of them all. Hot Box offers more than just cookies though. Hot Box also offers cookie cakes, ice cream sandwiches, icing sandwiches, cookie sundaes, milkshakes, hot chocolate and milk.

Hot Box is located at 808-B East Broadway and can be reached at 573-777-8269. Business operating hours are designed around late-night college study sessions breaks or afternoon snacks for grade school students. Hot Box Cookies is open Sunday and Monday 11 a.m. to 12 a.m., Tuesday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., and Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.

In addition to stopping in at the store, you can also order online. Online orders can be made at www.hotboxcookies.com and are often given special discounts, such as five percent loyalty cash. Hot Box Cookies has a Facebook page that features customers, new cookies and business updates. The Facebook page often gives away free cookies and free T-shirts randomly.

As I look through the display case, I finally reach a decision. My grandma and I always made chocolate chip cookies together, so I settle for a traditional chocolate chip cookie. After a few bites and a large glass of ice-cold milk, my taste buds were begging for round two. Warning, these cookies are highly addictive. Hot Box Cookies are sold in discount increments of six, so I can bring plenty back for my roommates. These cookies differ slightly from the ones my grandma and I would make, as they are hot, fresh and yummy but they come in a box.

The scent of homemade, just-out-of-the-oven cookies is one that reminds most of us of home. You may be miles away from your hometown but when you step into Hot Box Cookies, memories will flood your mind. There will also be plenty of new memories to make in Columbia when you and your friends try delicious Hot Box cookies.
