Meet Amy Zuroweste

“I want to inform people of the importance of agriculture, I don’t think they realize how important it really is,” Amy Zuroweste said.

As a freshman at Mizzou, Zuroweste is already on her way to achieving that goal. She is a science and agricultural journalism major and wants to have a career in photography.

“I’d like to work for someone like the Missouri Conservationist. I love the pictures used in that magazine.”

Zuroweste’s interest in agriculture is not new; she grew up showing pigs through 4-H and FFA. During high school, she was also an active member of the Troy FFA, where she excelled on multiple contest teams like FFA Knowledge and Ag Issues.

Growing up in Truxton, Mo., Zuroweste was used to driving 30 minutes to get just about anywhere, even school. All that driving explains why her favorite part of college life at Mizzou is simply going grocery shopping.

“I just feel so independent,” she said. “It’s so nice to be close to everything I need.”

Another new experience for Zuroweste was rushing and then pledging with Kappa Delta. She had the idea to rush after watching an older student from her school do the same thing while at Mizzou.

“She was in the ag school here and now she works for someone like Monsanto,” she said. “So, I thought, if she did it, I’d probably fit in, too.”

For Zuroweste, it was about more than just fitting in, she also wanted to meet new people during her time in college.

“I have several friends from high school that go here. I wanted to get away from the group that I’ve always been with.”

Zuroweste has been impressed with the new people she has met through her sorority.

“Everyone is really down to earth and nice, Zuroweste said. “I’m kind of awkward and weird sometimes … and they are, too. I just love it.”
