Mizzou Craft Studio sends Veteran's Day 'Thank You' cards

To celebrate Veteran’s Day, the Mizzou Craft Studio held a free session on Nov. 11 to create thank you cards for veterans. Although the turnout wasn’t as well as what was expected, the cards that were sent to the Veteran’s Hospital were greatly appreciated.

“I think we sent between 15 to 20 cards to the VA,” said Kelsey Hammond, Craft Studio coordinator. “It wasn’t as popular as last year but we had some very creative cards from some dedicated veteran supporters.”

MU student Leslee Moon and Columbia resident Ralph Kreigh express their appreciation for veterans by making thank you cards on Nov. 11 at the Craft Studio on campus.

A homemade thank you card is set on a table full of craft supplies.

The craft room may not have been as full of people as what was hoped for, but MU student Leslee Moon enjoyed taking time out of her day to thank veterans. Moon, a parks, recreation and tourism major, is a veteran herself.

“I’m glad they do this,” Moon said. “With the big age difference between veterans, it’s nice to make cards because everyone enjoys it. I feel that it is important to always recognize veterans in any way. Making those cards was such a quick and easy way to say, ‘We're thinking about you’.”

Moon enlisted in the army in 2002 shortly after graduating high school and says that she joined for the challenge and the experience.

“Most of the people receiving thank you cards have suffered beyond explanation and deserve acknowledgement,” Moon said. “I made those cards in hopes that the veterans receiving them know that they are forever appreciated and have not been forgotten about.”

This is the second year for the “Mizzou CRAFTernoon: Thank You Cards for Veterans,” sponsored by the Mizzou Craft Studio.
