University YMCA sells letters from St. Nick

by Eran Shelby, posted Nov. 19, 2009

Each holiday season, millions of children write letters to Santa Claus describing how their good behavior deserves the best toys. But for most of them, these letters go unanswered. This doesn’t have to be the case this year.

From now until Nov. 24, the University YMCA is selling letters, signed by Santa himself, that are postmarked from the North Pole. Each letter is $5, and the proceeds go toward University YMCA youth programs.

Sydney Wheeler, 5, said that if Santa sent her a letter she would, “tell my Mom that I think he loved me.”

This is the YMCA’s second year doing this project, and last year letters were delivered to a number of people: students, faculty and staff members, kids and grandkids, roommates and parents.

“We adopted this idea and thought it would be fun if our student volunteers and board members at the University YMCA could do this project together,” said Julie Alexander, executive director of student life at the university.
