Nine months of work went into preparing what some say is the colleges most fun week of the year — College of Agriculture Food and Natural Resources’ Week. Throughout the week, students representing CAFNR organizations competed to be crowned CAFNR Week king and queen.

Candidates competed in a variety of activities including: mud volleyball, the Great Grill-Off, Road Rally, Super Farmer, Lil Ag Expo, washer’s competition and skit night. At Barnwarming on Sept. 24 the winners were announced, and Kyle Eckler and Cheryl Ficken were crowned king and queen.

Eckler, an agricultural education major from Shelbyville, Mo., represented Alpha Gamma Rho during CAFNR week, but can be seen throughout the college in CAFNR Student Council and CAFNR Ambassadors. Going into CAFNR week, Eckler was not expecting his candidacy to be as time as consuming as it was, but he said it was still a lot of fun. He said his favorite part about the week was skit night.

Ficken, also an agricultural education major from Green Ridge, Mo., represented the Agricultural Education Society. Ficken can be seen participating in Sigma Alpha and CAFNR Student Council. Like Eckler, Ficken’s favorite part of CAFNR week was “skit night, hands down.”

“If you would have asked me last Thursday if I would have been queen I would have said no,” Ficken said. “It was really cool to see our club pull together as a team and say we can win this thing.”

Like most CAFNR students, her favorite time of the year is CAFNR week and she said the whole CAFNR experience has been fun.

“I couldn’t have asked for anything better than what CAFNR has given me the last four years,” Ficken said.
