CAFNR Student Council Fall Round-Up a success
by Brooklyn Shearer, posted Sept. 11, 2009

Students bustled through the Agricultural Building on Sept. 2, in search of their niche in the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources. As a part of CAFNR Fall Round-Up, nearly 40 organizations stood ready to greet more than 250 freshmen and transfer students. Fall Round-Up is an annual event hosted by CAFNR Student Council.

“There were also about twenty faculty in attendance and each club brought typically four representatives, so there were about hundred club representatives,” Taylor said.

Lesleighan Kraft, freshman from Durham, Mo., majoring in agricultural education said, “I found two organizations that I really liked. It was fun and I met a lot of people.”

Among the clubs and organizations present were the Collegiate Farm Bureau, Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow and the Agricultural Economics Club. The Collegiate Farm Bureau prepared by advertising at the State Fair.

“We actually worked in the Farm Bureau building at the state fair,” said Brenda Arnold president of Collegiate Farm Bureau.

Grant Roberts, member of Alpha Gamma Sigma, said that his organization made a display board with the information that incoming freshman or transfer students to MU and CAFNR would like to know about the fraternity.

Sigma Alpha Recruitment Chair, Morgan Kueckelhan said that their booth had a place where students could write their email to receive more information on their organization.

“There’s a lot of freshmen. We hang up a lot of posters and flyers but this seems to be the main place where we get recruits,” Kueckelhan said.

Organizations weren’t the only ones recruiting students at Fall Round-Up.

“I’m excited to share all the opportunities that CAFNR has to offer all the students,” said See Yang, Agriculture Future of America representative.

AFA is a national organization that holds a conference every fall for students to expand their knowledge about agricultural careers, and learn what employers want out of their employees.

“As a senior, I really value the organizations I’ve been in, and Fall Round-Up is the way we showcase those for our new students,” said Whitney Wallace, agricultural journalism senior.

The first 250 people to the event received a free t-shirt and meal.

“A huge thank you goes out to Tyson’s food for donating chicken sandwiches for the meal,” Taylor said. “They were really good.”

Overall, it was a successful evening for all those interested in getting involved in CAFNR.
