Student organizations seek to 'Round Up' new students at annual event
by Brooklyn Shearer, posted Sept. 1, 2009

If you are looking for your niche in the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, you will not want to miss CAFNR Student Council’s Fall Round-Up.  At 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, more than 40 CAFNR organizations will have booths throughout the Agriculture Building hallways.

“The first 250 people get a free t-shirt and meal,” said Lezlie Taylor, a CAFNR senior and co-chair of this year’s event. “Fall Round Up is a great way for new students to MU’s campus to come and be introduced to faculty, organizations and other opportunities that CAFNR has to offer.”

Freshmen are invited to meet at 5:30 p.m. in Conservation Hall in the Agriculture Building before browsing the booths and enjoying a meal.

New this year, sophomores are encouraged to come visit club booths before Fall Round Up begins — from 5 to 5:30 p.m. This “sophomore stroll” will allow older students to get to know organizations in CAFNR that they may not know about.

Committee members are expecting about 250 to 300 freshmen and transfer students to attend. There are a number of CAFNR organizations to meet any interest — Agricultural Economics Club, Mizzou FFA, Pre-Vet Club or even Mizzou Storm Chase Team.

“Basically, it’s an activities fair for students new to CAFNR whether they are freshmen or transfer students,” said Mary Leykamp, also a CAFNR senior and Mizzou FFA Community Chair.

Each club will have a booth with members and information about their particular organization, and maybe even some free goodies. Come early to grab a free meal, and learn more about how you can get involved in your college.
