by Sean O'Brien, posted Oct. 12, 2009

Buck’s Ice Cream Place will celebrate its 20 years of business by hosting an anniversary ice cream social on Thursday, Oct. 15 from 3:30 to 6 p.m. The festivity will take place outside of Eckles Hall, where Buck’s Ice Cream Place is located.

Buck’s Ice Cream Place is celebrating its 20th anniversary with an ice-cream social on Thursday, Oct. 15.

“Get a scoop for a ‘Buck’s’ to enjoy a grilled brat,” said Randy Mertens, publications coordinator for the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources’ Office of Advancement and Communications.

Tiger Stripe ice cream, Tiger Tail bratwursts and more will be sold for $1. Buck’s Ice Cream Place baseball-style shirts will also be available for purchase. From Truman the Tiger to riding with the mule team, the celebration offers a lot of fun, Mertens said.

Buck’s Ice Cream Place opened for business in 1989 by two University of Missouri graduates, Wendell and Ruth Arbuckle. Buck’s is not just an ice cream parlor, but it also serves as a research laboratory for the dairy program’s ice cream research and a classroom, teaching the key concepts of maintenance, inventory, manufacturing and retail.

Event participants can also learn more about the history of Buck’s while at the celebration, along with MU’s dairy science program.

“I cannot wait to get some tiger stripe ice cream,” said Mark Burger, MU student. “I loved it at Tiger Walk and it is going to be great at just one dollar.”
