2009 Career Fair was a success

by Aimee Gutshall, posted Oct. 14, 2009

The College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources held its fall Career Fair from noon to 4 p.m. on Oct. 7 at the Reynolds Alumni Center. That day around 400 students visited 65 companies. University of Missouri students were visiting booths and employers looking for full-time and internship positions.

“I came to the Career Fair looking for a summer internship as a grain merchandiser,” said Sarah Downing, agricultural business major. “The fair offered me many opportunities to network and create contacts with agricultural companies. The 2009 Career Fair was a huge success.”

Many companies from across the country visited the MU campus on Wednesday in hopes of filling positions immediately. Some of these companies held interviews the following day for candidates they recruited at the fair. Companies will also be holding on-campus interviews in the next few weeks.

“Pioneer is here today looking for part-time and full-time positions,” said Tiffany Thornton, Pioneer research associate. “We will be interviewing on campus tomorrow after referring students to fill out the online application on our Web site. Today has gone extremely well. The students have all been professional and ready to make job decisions that will dictate their future. We have lots of positions open and are excited to hire.”

CAFNR Career Services staff the Career Fair in hopes of benefiting CAFNR students in their professional development.

“The Career Fair was a great opportunity for students to begin social networking with agricultural companies,” said Becky Schneider, Career Services professional development intern. “It’s a great chance for students to see what’s out there career-wise to begin planning for their future. Today went really well with a consistent flow of students. We were very pleased.”
