Preview Mizzou welcomes the next generation to MU campus

More than 500 high school students participated in a jam-packed day full of activities at this year’s Preview Mizzou, hosted by the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources Student Council.

“The CAFNR student body went above and beyond in providing volunteers to make our guests feel welcome,” said CeCe Leslie, director of Student Recuriment. “This was the largest Preview Mizzou!”

The two co-chairs this year were Sarah Kohne and Whitney Middleton.

“We are hoping to recruit new tigers to be a part of CAFNR and get them excited about what we have to offer,” said Sarah Kohne, recruitment co-chair for CAFNR Student Council.

Students had the opportunity to attend their choice of two academic sessions. Advisers from each department led the sessions and educated students about the careers available to students graduating in their fields. Students were able to choose from 10 different academic sessions. Leslie said all majors were well attended with Animal Science drawing the most attention from students.

“I learned a lot more about college, and its way more complex than I thought,” said Laura Morgan, a junior from Hermitage, Mo. “Just by attending Preview Mizzou and listening to the academic session, I realized what I really want to do.”

After attending the academic sessions, students were led on a campus tour that included a visit to the CAFNR Student Organization and Club Fair. Twelve student organizations had booths set up to promote their organizations to potential members.

Students were not the only ones who experienced Preview Mizzou. Many parents came to learn more about CAFNR and what it has to offer their children.

“I want her to get a good exposure to the Mizzou campus and see if it fits her,” said Dan Hegeman, a parent from Savannah, Mo.

Teachers were looking to open their students’ eyes to the opportunities available after graduation.

“Preview Mizzou is a great opportunity for my students to explore career options and see what a four-year college has to offer them,” said Stephanie Gutshall, agricultural education instructor from Mexico, Mo.

Preview Mizzou allows incoming students to view different options available.

“I am undecided about what I want to do after graduation, so Preview Mizzou was a good opportunity to see some of the options I have,” said Tyler Linnemann, a senior from Keyetsville, Mo.
