Skit Night delivers a night a laughter
by Alex Roach, posted Oct. 7, 2008

“It’s worth my 7 dollars already,” said MU student Arlen Jackson in the midst of several bursts of laughter after 15 minutes into the show.

CAFNR Week’s Skit Night was comic relief for all those who were in attendance. Although some skits got more laughs than others, there wasn’t one dead moment throughout the show. Songs were as varied as Alpha Gamma Rho’s live impression of N’Sync’s “Bye, Bye, Bye” and the Agricultural Education Society’s rendition of an episode of “The Magic School Bus,” in which a high-strung, energetic “David Frazier” made a cameo appearance. No one could seem to look away from the stage.

“Students are the energy of CAFNR,” said an overbearing “Frazier,” during his scene.

This statement rang true at skit night. CAFNR students’ clever remarks and upbeat dance moves enticed the audience and introduced agriculture in a unique way. Alpha Gamma Rho’s skit involved time travel from the 70s, 80s and 90s, and even had “Vanilla Ice” bust out lyrics about agriculture. “Look at my crops. I irrigate and they glisten,” “Ice” said.

If hip-hop wasn’t one’s forte, the CAFNR Ambassadors presented a one-of-a-kind performance in which they stripped off their top layer of clothing, revealing “country” attire, and two-stepped to the lyrics of “Thank God I’m A Country Boy.” There was something for everyone in the house.

The actors weren’t the only ones who got up on the stage. Throughout the night, audience members were picked randomly to come up to the stage and participate in a dance off or in CAFNR’s version of “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” for which the topic was giving a motivational speech to KU students.

During the show, CAFNR student participants were required to say the week’s theme.

“CAFNR isn’t just a college, it’s a way of life.”
