Lil’ Ag Expo exposes CAFNR At 11 a.m., Sept. 22, the smell of hamburgers and the sounds of curious questions and informative answers filled the air. The College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources puts on the Lil’ Ag Expo each year as part of CAFNR week, a week of events and activities designed to connect and promote the CAFNR.

Overall, the Ag-Expo was a success with a large turnout of students. The Ag-Expo was part of CAFNR week. This event was geared toward showing MU students what CAFNR and the agriculture industry have to offer.

“The point of Lil’ Ag Expo is to try and reach out to people outside CAFNR, and help inform them about the ag school,” said Holly Bellis, a member of the CAFNR Week education and service steering committee.

Despite its large size and contributions to MU, CAFNR is largely unknown to the student population. The Lil’ Ag Expo aims to inform people about CAFNR in order to change this .

Eli Starkey and Ryan Mauzey from Agricultural Systems Management show students a CASE tractor. According to Starkey and Mauzey, CASE is one of the best brands.

“I think CAFNR stands for College of Agriculture, Farming, Resources…and what is the next letter?” said Tom Kimutis, a senior business economics major.

Kimutis was one of many students who attended the expo. He was not alone in his lack of knowledge about CAFNR. Many other expo attendants did not recognize what CAFNR stands for.

“I’m often surprised at how little people know about CAFNR, especially the people who are supposed to know, like summer welcome leaders and others whose job is to know the University,” Bellis said.

Rebecca Kerr represented Farm Safety for Just Kids. She demonstrated how fast a small child could face danger if he or she were playing in an operating grain elevator.

By 2 p.m., the Lil’ Ag Expo was winding down as participants took their booths down. CAFNR club members were hopeful that the event taught people across campus more about CAFNR.
