With CAFNR Week underway, organizations from the College of Agriculture,
Food and Natural Resources participated in one of the last Twilight
Festivals to be held in downtown Columbia. Thursday, Sept. 18, CAFNR fraternities,
sororities and clubs set up displays in order to score points for their king
and queen candidates. Twilight Festival was
more than a competition for these CAFNR clubs; it was a chance to teach and
have fun.

Members of the Food Science, Barbecue and Fermentation club assist young fishers in making that big catch, reiterating the evening’s theme of supporting clean streams. |
“It’s just about coming out and having fun for the kids,” said senior Justin Lueck, Alpha Gamma Sigma
king candidate.
Twilight Festival gives families a chance to go out together to learn,
play and listen to music. The festival has been held in downtown Columbia
every Thursday in June and September since 1989. This is the final season
for the Twilight Festival.
“It’s an honor that the city of Columbia lets us as CAFNR students promote
agriculture to our youth,”said Jason Robinett, senior and president of
Independent Aggies.

The CAFNR Week booth gives people a crash course in all things CAFNR and Mizzou. |
There were several booths set up for passersby to interact with:
– The Agriculture Education Society was doing what they do best: teaching
and promoting agriculture to the younger generations. They gave hands-on
demonstrations on how to milk a cow and passed out milk to thirsty
observers.
– The Food Science, BBQ and Fermentation Club were keeping with the theme of
Twilight Festival. Their children’s fishing pond helped promote the
evening’s message of clean streams.
– The Collegiate Cattlewomen were taking pictures of the kids with Molly
Moo. Their club talked specifically to the kids about the nutritional
benefits of eating beef.
– Many families enjoyed the Mizzou Block and Bridle display, which included a
matching game and interesting information about the club. The Block and
Bridal Club was promoting all aspects of the animal products industry.
– The Agricultural Economics Club was at the Festival promoting CAFNR with
the slogan, “Its not just a college, its a way of life.”
– Independent Aggies shared candy with the kids along with the message of
their charitable organization.
– Alpha Gamma Sigma talked to onlookers about their ag-based fraternity and
also gave people their shot at a game of darts. Their slogan is “making
better men.”
