Poinsettias for sale this week

Tiger Garden and the MU Horticulture Club have poinsettias on sale this week. These Christmas-time plants have long been a tradition for those celebrating the holidays. The Horticulture Club will be selling them in the hallway of the agriculture building Dec. 4 and 5.
The Horticulture Club and Tiger Garden have a variety of poinsettia plants for sale. Tiger Garden will be selling plants between 6 and 7 inches around the base that range from $10.95 to $24.95. The difference in the price is not due to size alone; Tiger Garden makes its poinsettias unique through a dying process.
“We have the ability to make poinsettias any color you want, and [we] can even do custom painting,” said Kim Cottrell, student manager of Tiger Garden. “In the past we have done polka dot, stripes, and paw prints. [They] were very popular last year. Some of our most popular colors are blue, purple and orange.”
Cottrell said that the dyed orange poinsettias with “shimmer powder” were her personal favorite.
“I really like all the poinsettias with glitter. I think they just look really nice,” she said. “Orange has always been my favorite color. Some of the colors we do are really wild and crazy, but the orange is a little more conservative!”
The Horticulture Club’s poinsettias will be the traditional colors: red, white and pink. Tracie Zimmerman, the club president, encouraged everyone to stop by their booth in the agriculture building from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 4 and 5 to support the club.
