There is only One Mizzou

There is only one way to get involved, at least that is the case for MU junior Tyler Sangermano, creator of the One Mizzou campaign. One Mizzou is a branch of the national campaign The One. The One national campaign has 2 million members from all 50 states, and MU’s campaign has about 25 active members.
The campaign became official at MU in October 2007. What does the campaign do? It promotes and works to alleviate the affects of extreme poverty and global disease. “We have been tabling for One Mizzou to gain more interest and membership,” Sangermano said. “Next semester we are having a U2 tribute band We are also trying to put together a food bank, hopefully before Thanksgiving.”
One Mizzou is working to help make poverty something of the past. The campaign is a non-profit, well-known and respected organization. They are trying to raise awareness about global poverty, hunger, disease and efforts to fight such problems in the world’s poorest countries.
“One believes that allocating more of the U.S. budget toward providing basic needs like health, education, clean water and food would transform the futures and hopes of an entire generation in the world's poorest countries,” according to the national campaign’s Web site. “We take the Triple A approach to handling the issues - awareness, advocacy and action. We work hard on campuses and around the community as well as work closely with many other organizations to get our word out to solve these world-wide problems.”
The organization is in need of leaders to help fight the emergencies of poverty and AIDS.
“I got One Mizzou started at MU last year just by e-mailing The One and stated I was interested and just got started from there,” Sangermano said.
Students who want to help promote or get involved may visit the One Mizzou Web site, onemizzou.weebly.com, or the national The One Web site, one.org.
