South Farm Showcase features family friendly activities

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 27, CAFNR and the Missouri Agricultural Experiment Station invite residents in the Columbia area to the third annual South Farm Showcase at MU’s South Farm on the southeast side of Columbia. This event is open and free to the public.
Visitors will be taken on various tours of the farm’s research programs. They will learn about programs such as alternative fuels, beef and native plants. There will also be a garden exhibit that offers activities for guests.
This event can be a great way for families to get together and learn about agriculture. Options for children include a petting zoo, corn maze and the opportunity to run around the bases of the MU “Field of Dreams.” There will also be live music and food vendors.
South Farm is a large part of MU’s agricultural programs. It provides a place for research and educational opportunities that the classroom cannot provide.
“South Farm is a special location because of its proximity to campus,” said Marc Linit, CAFNR associate dean for research and extension. “It’s so important because we can bring undergraduate and graduate students to learn about animal and plant management.”
South Farm supplies the land and labor materials for numerous research opportunities that go on during the school year.
