The Shane Kinne

When walking through the hallways of Hudson Hall’s seventh floor, you will hear mentions of “The Shane Kinne.” Shane Kinne, a freshman agribusiness student, has earned a slight bit of celebrity status and has made several close friends since being at MU. As his friends on the floor talk of him, they use words such as “extreme” and “excellence,” but Kinne remains modest.
“I think the nickname is overrated,” Kinne said. “I am not that big of a deal.”
Kinne is originally from Eagleville, Mo., and he grew up on an Angus cattle farm. He attended North Harrison High School. While in high school, he remained very busy. Kinne was in FFA, National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, basketball and men’s fast-pitch softball.
“It’s kind of hard to explain, but it was softball not baseball at my school,” said Kinne as he shook his head with a smile.
Out of all of his activities, his favorite was being involved in FFA. Kinne served as his chapter president for two years, and was area two’s treasurer. He also participated on several contest teams, but meat evaluation and forestry were his favorites. Kinne has always been well known at FFA events around the state of Missouri because of his older brother, Zach Kinne, who was the Missouri FFA state president in 2005 to 2006 and now serves as the national FFA president.
“When people first started asking me if I was Zach Kinne’s little brother, I thought it was cool,” Shane Kinne said. “I was still in high school and I liked people to know who I was. Then it got really old, but now it’s 'whatever.'”
Kinne is involved in a lot of activities in the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources. He participates in Collegiate Farm Bureau, Block and Bridle, Mizzou Archery and Ducks Unlimited. An activity he enjoys is archery, and he goes bow hunting often.
“I shot a pretty sweet buck once; it was a 10 point,” Kinne said with excitement.
For fun, Kinne likes showing cattle and hogs, riding horses and hanging out with friends. He is having a blast in college and really loves making new friends.
One of Kinne’s closest friends at MU is Jordan Branstetter, a freshman agricultural economics major.
Kinne and Branstetter discussed the way they first met.
“We met the first week of school,” Branstetter said.
“Well, actually we kind of sort of met at the State Fair,” Kinne said.
“Well, we didn’t really meet; I just knew who your brother was,” Branstetter explained.
Branstetter is the one who first came up with Kinne’s nickname, “The Shane Kinne,” and also created the Facebook group dedicated to Kinne.
“Shane is always there and willing to help out,” Branstetter said. “He is just a good friend.”
Everyone who meets Kinne has nothing but positive things to say about him.
“He is nice to everyone he meets,” said Becca Bunton, a freshman agricultural business major. “Shane really gets to know a person and doesn’t judge them by their first appearance.”
Kinne has a lot to look forward to in his future, and he hopes to work at an agriculture firm that works with agricultural policy and cattle. Through all of the friendships he has made and his way of connecting with the people he meets, Shane Kinne has a lot to look forward to.
