Roundin' up the family

College students often feel a bit homesick during the first couple of weeks of classes, but there’s no reason why campus can’t feel more like home. On Wednesday, Aug. 29, CAFNR Student Council will host Fall Roundup, an annual social event intended to welcome new freshmen and transfer students and introduce them to College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources clubs and organizations.
“I like to think of Fall Roundup as saying, ‘Welcome back and welcome home,’” said CeCe Leslie, director of student recruitment for CAFNR. “CAFNR embraces a culture of caring. We promote a family atmosphere here.”
The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a welcoming ceremony held at Conservation Auditorium in the Anheuser-Busch Natural Resources Building. Afterward, students will be free to roam the hallways of the Agriculture Building, look at informational booths and visit with members of 30 CAFNR clubs and organizations. Tyson will provide a chicken dinner for students at 6:30 p.m. in the courtyard behind the Agriculture Building.
CAFNR students and employees encourage new students to become involved in extracurricular activities. Taryn Dameron, CAFNR Student Council development committee co-chair and Fall Roundup organizer, said the most important aspect of the event is “to help students find clubs both within and outside of their major.”
She also said that joining clubs and organizations is a great way for students to meet new people they wouldn’t otherwise meet and that it “helps to improve the student experience” at MU by providing a solid foundation and future opportunities, such as internships and job opportunities.
CAFNR has long been known for its family atmosphere and friendly staff. Simply put by Leslie, “We’re here for you.”
Come join the family and see what CAFNR has to offer.
