Farms

If you are looking for something to do in the crisp fall weather,
Shryocks Callaway Farms is the perfect place to go for fun.
Callaway Farms is a great place for family or friends to get
together. The family-owned and run farm is open to the public
Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in October.
You can start with the giant corn maze, the farms biggest
attraction. The costs for going through the maze are: adults
- $6; children - $5 (12 and under); and children under 3 years
old are admitted free with a paying adult. It is recommended
that you allow at least one hour and 15 minutes to finish
the maze.

This year's theme is the "Wild West". Carved into
the maze is a horse, cowboy hat and what can be assumed as
the Rocky Mountains. The Shryocks family designs a new corn
maze every year before the fall season. Some past maze themes
have been "Great American," "Spirit of Missouri,"
"Spirit of America," and "Eye of the Tiger."
"People come from all around Missouri each year to see
what designs we've come up with," said Joe Shryock, one
of the owners of the farm.
After the maze is finished, guests are invited to enjoy a
hayride and bonfire around the Callaway acreage. "The
bonfire was my favorite part of the trip, everyone got to
sit around the fire and make s'mores. It was a lot of fun,"
said Kelsey Brown, who went to the farm with her sorority.
Reservations are required for the hayride and the cost is
$7. Guests are encouraged to arrive at least 20 minutes prior
to their reserved hayride time because once the tour begins
it is difficult for individuals to catch up with their party.
If you do not want to bring your own snacks for the bonfire,
you can purchase food packages to be waiting for you upon
arrival. The food packages include two hot dogs with buns
and condiments, chips, a soda and ingredients for two s'mores.
Alcohol is not permitted on the farm.
The Callaway Farm was was established in 1889, and the Big
Red Barn was built in 1999. Business is conducted in the front
part of the barn; the back is used for storage and farming
equipment.
