The
CAFNR Committee held its annual comedy night at the Déjà
Vu comedy club last night. The event featured comedians Dan
Cummings, featured on the Late Show with Craig Ferguson and
Louis Ramey, featured weekly on Nick at Nite.
The event lasted
from 7:30 to 9 p.m. and was funded by ticket sales, according
to Alyssa Berry, junior agriculture journalism major and CAFNR
committee tri-director. Although the event didn’t count
for CAFNR week points, some still found a special importance
in the night.
“The rest
of the week is all competition,” Berry said. “This
is just a fun event to give something back to the kids.”
The comedians got
good responses from the mostly CAFNR crowd. Cummings’
set included jokes about vegetarians, Ashlee Simpson and unicorns.
Ramey, who took the stage 40 minutes later, joked about failed
gigs and even included the audience in a couple jokes.
The turnout for
the event, however, was less then previous years according
to senior Ag Systems Management major and CAFNR committee
tri-director Chris Nation. He attributed the smaller attendance
to the event being placed in a test week and that it didn’t
count for any CAFNR week points.
“It was a
lot of fun, but we just didn’t account for all the people
taking tests this week,” Nation said. “That’s
definitely something the CAFNR Committee will consider next
year.”
CAFNR week extends
through September 30.
