After
graduation from college, there is the quest to find a job.
The CAFNR Career Day is put on annually by the CAFNR Career
Services during CAFNR Week. This year it was held in the Christopher
Bond Life Sciences Center.
Career
Day at Mizzou helps students answer questions. For the seniors,
it allows them to network and possibly get that interview.
For the younger students, it gives an opportunity to find
internships and see what employers are looking for. “I
thought it was a good way to meet prospective employers,”
Tracy Sample, freshman agriculture education major, said.
“I’m
so proud of the students who attended,” Stephanie Chipman,
Career Services Director for CAFNR, said. “Everyone
dressed professionally with resumes and attitudes to match.”
Chipman noted that one of the businesses said, “Mizzou
has distinguished itself. There’s a reason I’m
coming back this semester.” There were 69 registered
companies for the day. It’s a 26 percent increase over
the last year, Chipman said. She considered the day a major
success.
“Coming
to the Career Day is a tremendous arena to recruit interns
as well as employees,” Steve Beck, Missouri Farm Bureau’s
employee development coordinator, said. “I know Farm
Bureau comes because of the quality of a student we can find
here.” This holds true for many of the companies that
attend Career Day.
Attending
Career Day can help a student realize all the different opportunities
there are actually. “Just because our company has “Farm”
in it, doesn’t limit it to agriculture,” Beck
said. “We need people from all degrees. Don’t
assume what our company is based on by its name.” Beck
stressed the importance of keeping an open mind about every
company and the possibilities it holds.
