Get
your breakfast on the go

The
chef folded the omelette and placed it lightly on to the soft,
crispy croissant. The chef then shuffled over to the counter
to put the hot hash brown into its bag, and then packaged
the meal into a crumbling, white paper bag. She carefully
handed the bag to the student with a smile on her face. The
chef had served her first customer for the morning. The chef
glanced at the door as more students filed in to line to fill
their stomachs before their next class.
Some students eat in dining halls for breakfast, but if they
are running behind schedule for class and need a quick bite
to eat, they can stop at Eva J’s Breakfast To Go. “It’s
quick, easy…for those who are on the go and have 8:00
a.m. classes,” said Michaele Vock, MU freshman. Eva
J’s sells omelette sandwiches, bagels, cinnamon rolls,
fruit cups, hash browns, etc.
Eva J’s Breakfast To Go began on Aug. 28, 2006, and
it serves breakfast from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. “The
department thought of this idea because we needed a way to
build our sales,” said Monelle Hausheer, manager of
Eva J’s.
Beginning this service allowed the Eva J’s department
to provide students breakfast on the go. “And you don’t
have to wait in line,” said Adela Caratta, food service
worker one. “The service is an extra boost if you want
to grab a cup of coffee or danish.”
The service is “very upbeat, especially in the morning
the workers are very nice and make you want to come back just
for the service,” said Vock.
Although the service has just begun, there is still room for
improvement. Vock said, “They should have just little
cereal bowls because some like to keep track of calorie intake.”
Tara Daniels, MU freshman, would like it if Eva J’s
could “[offer] more things for breakfast like pancakes
instead of just omelette sandwiches.” That’s the
type of feedback Monelle and staff are looking for. Monelle
said she would change some of the items that are not selling.
They will do surveys to see what students would like as breakfast
items and advertise it on the MU food website.
Eva J’s To Go is different from any other dining hall
because “students don’t have to use an entire
meal if they have the point system. “It’s quick
with it [breakfast], they’re courteous, and my order
has never been messed up,” said Daniels.
“Leave it the way it is and see what people want to
change later on,” Caratta said.
Eva
J’s is “pretty much on the ball.”
