Mike Night showcases local talent

Union Square is usually filled with students studying and
the soft voices of friends meeting for coffee. As the smell
of coffee lingered from Applause Coffeehouse and a crowd listened
intently, a mellow guitar and strong voice filled the room
as students shared their talents and experiences.
Open Mike Night showcased the talents of MU students on Oct.
18. The Student Union Program Board hosted the event which
included comedians, musicians and storytellers. The SUPB provides
all of that and more each Wednesday in Union Square, which
is located inside Memorial Union, next to Applause Coffeehouse.
One of the acts included a man named Ardie Mansouri who played
the acoustic guitar and sang. Mansouri, who has been playing
for almost ten years, said, “I wanted to start playing
around Columbia and thought this would be a good start.”
Michelle Queiser, publicity director for the SUPB, said, “We
provide these events as a forum for students to show off their
talents. It’s nice hear because students are the event.”
The SUPB holds many different events including the upcoming
Karaoke Kraze which will be held Nov. 1 from 7 to 9 p.m. in
Union Square, as well as the Comedy Wars, which includes an
all students improvisational comedy team every Wed. night
from 9:30 to 11 p.m. also in Union Square.
