MU Alumni Association offers you the chance to be a 'True Tiger'
By Stephanie Frey, Posted Sept. 25
Many new students at MU choose to sign up for a program called True Tigers. For many, the interest is sparked when they hear the words “free t-shirt.” Unknown to these eager students are the opportunities that True Tigers can really offer them.
“It
is a great opportunity for students to understand what the
Alumni Association purpose is and how it can benefit each
student, not just alumni," Laura Bondy, coordinator of
homecoming and Young Alumni for the Missouri University Alumni
Association, said. "This program is also great because
it prepares students for alumni participation after graduation.”
Laura
Bondy, coordinator of Homecoming and Young Alumni for the
Missouri University Alumni Association, said “It is
a great opportunity for students to understand what the Alumni
Association purpose is and how it can benefit each student,
not just alumni. This program is also great because it prepares
students for alumni participation after graduation.”
True Tigers are a part of the MUAA that gets students involved in different events and activities across campus. According to the MUAA/ True Tigers website, “By getting involved with the Alumni Association while they are here, students can experience firsthand the rich traditions and University history, while developing the undying black and gold pride that Mizzou grads have for this institution.”
Cathy Herren, coordinator of membership and
marketing for the MUAA, said, “The True Tiger program
allows students to connect with the MU Alumni Association
and its worldwide network of alumni beginning on their first
day on campus. The program operates as a student chapter of
the alumni association, very similar to what alumni might
be able to engage with in their hometowns. Members are invited
to a variety of events that promote tradition and pride and
provide both social and networking opportunities. True Tiger
members are entitled to the same benefits as regular alumni
association members and many participate in chapter events
and take advantage of our discount program and other services.”
By becoming
involved with MU alumni, students can attain valuable connections
that may help them after college. According to Megan Sparks,
an active True Tiger member, “You can talk to alumni
who have been out in the real world.”
True Tigers also offer students career seminars and etiquette dinners, which can help students cultivate skills that could help them when they graduate. “I got involved with True Tigers because of the great discounts, the fun social programs, and the great alumni that I meet from networking activities such as the dinner with 12 Tigers and the Networking Dinner,” said Rachel Anderson, True Tiger vice president.
Another reward
of becoming a True Tiger is the events calendar that is loaded
with exciting events exclusively for the True Tigers.
Another reward is a free gift kit for members when they first
join that includes items such as a t-shirt and a car decal.
True Tigers also get a 10 percent discount at the University
Bookstore, and a 15 percent discount at the Tiger Team Store
according to the Web site. On top of the valuable career services,
the road trips and other events are always an experience as
well.
“The
away games are my favorite part! The Nebraska game is coming
up, and I am going with True Tigers,” said Sparks.
