GDI Dance shakes up Cody's Saloon

The hardwood dance floor at Cody’s Saloon will never be the same again, not after 1,300 attendees of the GDI Start Dance got their groove on August 31. The bar was hopping, and plenty of people kept on knocking as the line to get into the bar stretched out into the parking lot. Luckily for them, GDI and Cody’s were more than happy to get everyone 18 and over into the bar and for them to relieve some college stress.
GDI President and senior animal science major Ryan Power said he was pleased with the way things went that night. “I am extremely excited with the results of the dance," Power said. "This proves that GDI dances are only going to get better and better with time. The dance proved to be record setting for one night of attendance at the bar.”
The dance also impressed new faces, including freshman physical therapy major Rechelle Carroll. “It was my first GDI dance at MU," Carroll said. "I had a lot of fun. There were a lot of people, and I can’t wait until the next dance.”
Regulars of the dance were also delighted. “A crowd of that size has to lead up to bigger and better dances for GDI," said Doug Ludwig, biological engineering graduate student, and former GDI officer. "I was really pleased with the turnout and had a great time.”
GDI, also known as Independent Aggies is a co-ed group of independent agricultural students that are interested in promoting agriculture. GDI has beginning- and ending-day dances every semester.
