A
place to be a child

Every child deserves “A Place to Be a Child”,
the motto for and reason Coyote Hill Christian Children’s
Home was started. Larry and Cathy McDaniel founded Coyote
Hill in 1991 because they saw a huge need for a professional
children’s home, according to Larry McDaniel. Coyote
Hill sits on a property of 150 acres north of Columbia, Mo.
There are three homes on the property that can house up to
eight children. The three homes have many activities for the
kids. There are basketball courts, jungle gyms, trampolines,
tetherballs and swing sets at each house. For all the homes
to share there are two fishing lakes, a beach with a swimming
area, mountain biking and walking trails, camping sites, a
garden and a big sledding hill, according to the
Coyote Hill Web site.
“I think it’s awesome what they are doing there.
Not only are they caring for the kids, but they are also teaching
them everyday things,” said Nathan Casey, sophomore
at MU and volunteer at Coyote Hill.
For Jacob and Amy Kingery of the Zimmerman Home, the second
of the three homes, the journey started two and a half years
ago. “It was a God thing. We both wanted to work with
kids and share Jesus with them to help them have better lives,”
said the Kingerys. They said the greatest thing about their
job is the love, especially for the kids.
As for the children, there would be around 100 children that
have been helped after 15 years, but Larry McDaniel keeps
his focus on the children they are helping right now and the
ones they will help in the future. “To me the most important
thing about Coyote Hill is clearly the changed lives and the
families that are restored and the children who are given
hope for a future that is full and complete,” said Larry
McDaniel.
