Party
with a Purpose

Live music could be heard all the way down Ninth Street on
Friday, Nov. 3. Dance Marathon was in full swing, lasting
from 5 p.m. on Friday and to 5 p.m. on Saturday. The theme
of Dance Marathon was “Party with a Purpose,”
and it certainly was. The purpose of Dance Marathon was to
raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network who in
turn donates all proceeds to the Children’s Hospital
in the University Hospital, according to Kristin Steinkamp,
tri-director of Dance Marathon. To raise money there was a
$5 cover charge to get in the event, or a $15 cover charge
to get a T-shirt and food.
“Any amount we can give is greatly appreciated by the
Children’s Hospital, so we just try and raise as much
as possible,” said Steinkamp.
Raising money did not seem to be a problem. There were 15
organizations that participated as a group in Dance Marathon.
There were also a lot of people who just went to have fun.
It was a fun atmosphere with live bands, a carnival, a tailgate
for the MU game and an eating contest. “It’s definitely
fun. There is live music and a great atmosphere. It’s
good seeing people you know from around campus,” said
Garrett Haas, senior at MU. Dance Marathon is a great way
to have fun and support a great cause, according to Haas.
“I came to help the kids,” said Kelsey Gilbert,
freshman at MU.
