Is stress taking its toll on you?

“Stress is a part of my every day life,” said Jessica Tuttle, senior at MU. According to ivf.com, one way to manage stress is to allow oneself some down time. Down time can be taking little breaks to get away from the stressors, or it can be doing something enjoyable for a short amount of time.

“I take an hour each day to myself. It’s very important to do that because it gives me time to relax and not be so stressed out. I also get to be alone,” said Tuttle.

It’s very important to rest at the end of the day or week, according to mindtools.com. It’s also important to take leisure time. That time balances out the stress student’s experience.

“My down time is extremely important. It definitely keeps me sane. I’d probably lose my mind without that time to myself,” said Lydia Priebe, freshman at MU.

According to mindtools.com, it’s also really important to make sure these things students do in their leisure time are things they enjoy that can be restful. Mindtools.com says slow physical activities are good for these leisure activities.

“I go work out every morning to relieve my stress. I really notice if I don’t because I get really grouchy,” said Tuttle.

Sleep is also an important factor in down time. According to mindtools.com, students need about eight hours of sleep a night. If students are regularly short on sleep, it takes a toll on their concentration levels. It lowers their effectiveness and causes more stress.
