As
society is changing, so is Mizzou’s campus. Here is
a list of the things that are different on Mizzou’s
campus since the last generation according to alumni and a
current student.
1.
Mizzou’s recreation center was ranked at the top, according
to Sports Illustrated 2005. Norman Ruebling, a Mizzou graduate
said that Mizzou has “The most beautiful rec. center
in the nation.”
2.
Students at Mizzou do not have to carry around money. All
students need is their student identification card, said Ruebling.
3.
Almost every person on campus has a laptop, and if they do
not have a laptop, they most certainly have access to one,
according to Katie Krueger, junior at MU and community advisor
in Jones Hall.
4.
“The current generation is exposed to much more opportunity
than we were, due to the advent of technology,” said
Alan Wessler, an MU graduate.
5.
Students do not have to walk to class in silence. Students
can have music that fits in the palms of their hands, which
is a positive thing according to Ruebling.
6.
The abundance of cell phones has made communication home much
easier, said Ruebling.
7.
Students have more choices of clubs to be in and things to
do. “When I was in school, there was Harpos, 18th Amendment,
Stein Club and Booches,” said Ruebling.
8.
Students have access to many new buildings, including two
new basketball arenas since Wessler was at Mizzou. “Basketball
was played in the old Fieldhouse which is now part of the
Student rec. center. It held half the size of the crowds that
Hearnes or Mizzou Arena hold. We didn’t have the new
buildings that the campus has today,” said Wessler.
9.
“Football games were ‘dress up’ affairs,
a social event,” said Wessler.
10.
“There is more community and opportunity to make a home
in the Residence Halls,” said Krueger.
This list shows that many things have changed around Mizzou
since the last generation occupied campus.
