Buyback offers quick cash

The University Book Store has initiated their textbook buyback
program in which students can return previously purchased
textbooks for cash based on a percentage of the books market
value. Books can be returned in the foyer of Brady Commons
Dec. 4 through 8, from 8 a.m. through 6 p.m. Books can also
be returned Dec. 11 through 15 from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m.,
and Dec. 16 from 8 a.m. to noon. “It’s actually
pretty convenient, I can use some extra cash for the holidays,”
said sophomore Rachel Grabowski.
Only certain books are eligible for return. If a textbook
is in poor condition or is an old edition, it may not be accepted.
If a textbook is a new edition, but is overstocked, it can
be returned for the highest national market price. “If
a professor requested a textbook for the next term, it will
be bought for 50 percent of the original purchased price,”
said Public Relations Manager Michelle Froese. To view a list
of books eligible for return, visit Sell
My Textbooks Web site, and enter the textbook’s
International Standard Book Number located above the barcode.
The busiest times for the Textbook Buyback vary. “It
all depends on enrollment and what books professors have requested,”
Froese said. The number of buybacks is also subject to change
relevant to specific textbooks that faculty request.
Students can also post their textbooks on Used
Book Classifieds. This site allows for current students
to sell and buy textbooks from other students. Registering
requires an e-mail address and list of textbooks desired to
sell. Students create their own selling price and can post
up to five books at a time. “With what the University
Bookstore offers, you are not always going to get the better
deal with peer to peer trading,” Froese said.
“I was sort of disappointed,” said sophomore Jeremy
Hailey. “I sold back nearly all my books last year,
but I only got 20 bucks today.”
