Blue
light security on campus to make you feel more safe

With
nearly 30,000 students on Mizzou's campus, it is necessary
for a security system. The system that has been created to
solve this problem is the blue light system. Captain Weimer,
of the MU Police Department, said there are 170 blue light
locations around campus. He said the locations vary from one
on every level of parking garages to randomly along sidewalks.
"MUPD strives to to do their best when it comes to the
safety of students," Weimer said.
While it is not possible to have a blue light everywhere,
MUPD has tried to put them in convenient areas all over campus
and are always putting more in as campus expands. Weimer said
that he finds the blue light system to be pretty effective
but MUPD is always open to suggestions.
Alex Kojadinovic, a freshman at Mizzou, has already had an
experience on campus where she felt a blue light was needed.
"I had to just run to my dorm because I couldn't find
a blue light closer," Kojadinovic said. She said she
was in an incident, where she was about a block from her dorm,
and a male tried to attack her late at night. "The experience
made me realize that the blue light system is there when needed,
but only in some spots," Kojadinovic said. She said she
feels like the blue light system needs upgraded, but is still
a good thing that makes her feel safer. Kojadinovic said now
she tries to spot a blue light where ever she is.
