"I'm
just worried I will be too stressed out," said Julie
Babb, an MU freshman. "How am I ever going to adjust
to college life?"
Kim Dude,
director of the Wellness Resource Center, has some advice.
The answer to this question is to take action. The WRC offers
many groups and activities to help freshmen adjust to college
life. The activities that are most geared for freshmen are
peer educated programs. These programs are made up of a group
of students who volunteer to educate other students about
alcohol, drugs, party safety, and drinking and driving.
Dude
said one of the specific peer educated programs is where wellness
peer educators help students, especially freshmen, with fitness,
nutrition, stress, time management, tobacco, body image and
eating disorders. These, along with other programs, are a
way to help freshmen adjust to college life.
Charles
Nilon, MU professor, says that his best advice is to communicate
and interact with faculty. Nilon said, “Don’t
wait until you’re having a problem to talk to the teacher.”
Nilon said to do your assignments when you get them, do not
wait until the last minute. Have a good time, but keep track
of your assignments.
