Mix 900 students, 32
tables, 59 globe-like balloons and a passion for exploration and
you get a study abroad fair. The Ninth Annual Study Abroad Fair
took place from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Wed., Sept. 14, in
Memorial Union’s Stotler Lounge.
Mizzou student Brenda Miers came to the fair because she wanted
to talk firsthand to people who’ve been before as well as
speak with agency representatives. While talking with one representative
she learned that South America doesn’t have what she’s
looking for, while South Africa has exactly what she wants in
a study abroad opportunity.
Of the 32 tables present, there were 10 MU departments, 10 partner
programs, 11 individual booths and one table for free popcorn
and soda. Students could stop at any table for pamphlets, sign-up
sheets, pictures and answers to their questions.
The fair featured some study abroad programs unique to different
colleges such as CAFNR, some specific to a certain major, and
some open to all students.
Everyone could fill out a card for the chance to win a number
of door prizes, including a $500 scholarship. Winners will likely
be notified by e-mail soon.
Sarah Eskridge, the Study Abroad Advisor, organized the fair.
CAFNR students interested in exploring their options through the
college should visit with Roy Robinson, program director of international
studies. Students with further questions about study abroad can
contact the MU International Center or visit http://international.missouri.edu/studyabroad.
