New
Changes for CAFNR Week

While the
tradition is continuing into its 101st year, many changes are
taking place among events in this year’s CAFNR Week.
A new name for the week was implemented “to celebrate and
educate MU students and Columbia residents about agriculture,
food, and natural resources,” according to Katie Molloy,
one of the CAFNR Week Tri-Directors.
Previously known as Ag Week, Molloy said that the name change
to CAFNR week is necessary to becoming more inclusive to all of
the students in CAFNR. That change, however, is just the beginning.
Four new events are also taking place this year. A food drive/community
service event is planned for Saturday morning. A barbeque lunch,
sponsored by the Student Council, will also take place on Saturday
before the mud volleyball tournament that afternoon.
“I am probably most excited about the community service
project, which is a city wide food drive,” Molloy said.
“There's a free breakfast and it's going to be lots of fun.”
CAFNR Connections, a networking event, will also be a new addition
to the week. Presented by the CAFNR Career Services, the official
website describes the event as an “opportunity to socialize
and network with employers and alums.”
The college will also sponsor a Lowry Mall Expo for non-CAFNR
students to learn what the college has to offer. According to
Molloy, the new events will make the week different from past
years.
“Each year our goal is to do new and exciting things while
also keeping the tradition alive,” Molloy said.
The week is sponsored by Pioneer Hi-Bred Intl., Missouri Pork
Association, Farm Credit Services of Missouri, MFA Inc., Christensen
Farms, Bunge North America Inc., Missouri Soybean Association,
Prairie Farms and Premium Standard Farms.
