Students
now know how to 'put their best foot forward'

The College of Agriculture,
Food, and Natural Resources Career Services and National Agri-Marketing
Association, co-sponsored
an educational fashion show, called “Dress for Success,” on
September 12, 2005. The program was designed to show students how
to dress appropriately for the business world and interviews.
“
We want to make sure students know how to apply tips and become
more confident in knowing that they are dressed for success.” Stephanie
Chipman, CAFNR Career Services director said.
The event
began with a fashion show with male and female CAFNR students
modeling, while representatives from retail stores explained
the outfits. Participating stores that provided clothing for
the fashion show were Dillards, JC Penney, Binghams, Famous
Barr, and
Saffees. Students were able to see examples of proper interview
and professional dress, and even one example of what not to
wear.
“The impression you make by the way you dress, will affect you.” Tom
Koenigsfeld, President of NAMA said.
Following
the fashion show, a question and answer session with the representatives
from the retail stores helped students better understand concepts explained
throughout the fashion show. Important tips included, wear something
you are comfortable
in, red is a power color, and minor details are important. Accessories
such as jewelry for ladies, ties for men, and shoes for both, are key
factors in making
an outfit complete.
“
The most valuable thing I learned was how little details can really affect how
you look,” Annette Bruch, freshman Agribusiness Management major said. “I
think “Dress for Success” was a great way to learn about how to dress
and what not to wear. I feel like I can now be confident in knowing how to dress.”
Students will
soon have a chance to try out the tips they learned at the CAFNR
Career Fair on September 27, 2005. Any questions or comments
regarding “Dress
for Success” or the Career Fair should be forwarded to Stephanie Chipman
at chipmans@missouri.edu or by calling the CAFNR Career Services Office at (573)
882-0088.
